Another Hindu man killed in Bangladesh; 3rd such incident in 2 weeks

A 42-year-old Hindu security guard, Bajendra Biswas, was shot dead by his colleague within the premises of Sultana Sweaters Limited in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district. The tragedy occurred at the Labib Group garment unit in the Bhaluka Upazila area around 6:45 PM. According to eyewitnesses, the accused, 29-year-old Noman Mia, allegedly pointed a government-issued shotgun at Biswas in a purportedly "joking" or casual manner before the weapon discharged.

The bullet struck Biswas in his left thigh, causing severe blood loss. He was immediately rushed to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Both men were deployed as security personnel at the factory and were residing in the Ansar barracks located inside the factory premises. The local police have since arrested Noman Mia and seized the shotgun used in the fatal shooting, initiating a formal investigation into whether the act was truly accidental or premeditated.

This killing has sparked significant tension in the Bhaluka region, as it marks the third such violent death reported in the area within the past two weeks. Residents are particularly concerned following the brutal killing of another Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, on December 18, who was allegedly beaten and burned to death in the same locality. The recurring nature of these violent incidents has raised serious questions about the safety of minority workers in the industrial belts of Mymensingh.

Officer-in-charge Md Jahidul Islam confirmed that the victim's body has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. While the police are currently treating the case as a potential misuse of a firearm, legal proceedings are being fast-tracked given the sensitive nature of the incident. The local community and human rights activists are closely monitoring the situation, demanding a transparent probe and justice for the deceased worker.
